Chinese Fortune Cookies

The waiter places down the bill. A fortune cookie wrapped in plastic sits idle on top. This is what to expect at the end of every meal. The process is as follows:

Remove the cookie
Break the cookie
Read the piece of paper hidden inside the cookie
Share the new suggestion to everyone at the table
Place the paper in wallet on top of driver's license
Pull out money for bill

The cookie sits uneaten. Its shard marmalade pieces rest on the plastic wrapper. It's unnecessary. I don't need a fortune cookie at the end of the meal. It's predictable.
There are better cookies in California.
